I make objects and installations often using multiples or multiple found objects. All materials and processes are chosen carefully and purposefully ensuring the finished artworks contain multiple layers of meaning."
Throughout the work of Paula Chambers runs a common narratve of dangerous maternity. Objects nostalgically associated with mothering and the process of child rearing are subverted by their manifestation in unsuitable and culturally significant materials. The effect is unsettling; beautifully crafted and poignant objects become corrupted by the toxic associations of these materials and by the realisation that something much darker is being said.
